As an instructor, you have the ability to set late policies in your Lingco course. These policies will affect the scores students receive for an assignment that's submitted late.
A default policy is applied to every course in the system to match the existing behavior of getting a 0 after any amount of time submitted late. You can change that behavior in the course settings to only give a certain markdown either once, every day, or every hour late until they get to the minimum markdown. Changing the policy will affect all previous submissions in the course. Each submission can be manually opted out of the late policy in the same area that grades are adjusted.
Setting a Late Policy in a Course
To set your late policy in your Lingco course, navigate to your course dashboard, then click Edit Course on the right sidebar.
You'll now be able to configure the late policy and choose whether you'd like to automatically apply it. You're able to change the late penalty percentage, determine what interval you'd like to use (per day, per hour, per week, or one time), and what the lowest possible score can be.
A message will pop up alerting you that changing the late policy will affect previously graded submissions. However, a 'late submission penalty' can be ignored/exempted per student or assignment by adjusting grades. Once the late policy is set to your liking, click Save on the top of the Edit Course page.
How to See If a Student Submits an Assignment Late
On the Submissions Page
If a student submits an assignment late, you'll see the word "Late" under the Adjustments column on the assignment's submissions page for that student. In this example, my student got every question correct (100%) on the assignment. However, he submitted it 1 day late. Since I set my course late policy to a 10% penalty per day late, the student received a final grade of 90%.
If you click "Late", it'll show you what the late penalty is based on the late policy you set. You can also choose to override the late penalty by clicking Ignore Late Penalty.
In the Gradebook
You can also see if a student submitted an assignment late in your Lingco gradebook. If they submitted it late, you'll see a clock icon above their score.
If you click this, then click Edit Grade, you'll be able to see what the late penalty is based on the late policy you set. You also have the ability to override the late penalty here by clicking Ignore Late Penalty.
